Recently Nepal's Supreme Court stayed the government from demolishing the statue of Prithvi Narayan Shah. Maoist government wanted to demolish the statue but Supreme court has prevented them from destroying. However, in the past we have seen Maoist government don't really care about Supreme Court. What happened while recruiting the priest in Pashupatinath. They went on with recruitment despite Surpeme Court verdict that their selection was illegal. Ntt only that they went on the beat the priest.

Prithivi Naran Shaha is no more a national Icon. He has already been removed from the list of National hero by Maoist led government. Do you think that now he is no more a national hero ( that's what is written) that his statue should be removed?

What else had maobadi done till now except changing names, destorying statues and blaming others for every bad things?

Even though they hate kings, what dont they respect the common Nepali citizen who built that statue ? It will be insult to that skilled Nepali who built that statue if they demolish it.

r u out of your F#$%ing head to demolish the statue of the great hero who united our country. i don't care if we don't have king anymore, we all should still remember the history that marks the rise of our nation. every words he has left in the history still represents us.

why are we sooooo dumb and always destroying what we have, why don't we add on to it and build a better nation. be realistic and think outside of the box, its the time now or else we will never see our nation at the top not atleast in our lifetime.

Don't Dare do it, even the staunch of the supporters of maoists (I call them idiots for their narrow shights), dare do that and see what will happen to you.

Play the fool now and find yourself reaping the fruits, lose the dignity now and exclaim loud for its takeback atthe cost of K's of life.

How can they demolish the statue of the Person who founded Nepal ... Its very sad to hear that .... very very sad ...

I am not trying to support maoists but the truth is Prithvi narayan shah did not want to unite Nepal.He actually wanted to expand his kingdom.Infact, he did eveything possible...from treachery to deceit, by hook or by crook, to enlarge his dominion. He was driven by the desire to rule a greater kingdom.He was never satisfied with his small gorkha.
It is understandable that most of you support prithvi narayan and think him as a national hero because we have been taught so during our childhood. We were made to believe that he was infact a great hero.Even his misdeeds were depicted in a subtle yet glorious manner.
But guys,,,do some analytical thinking...genuine historical research...that would be an eye opener.
And I know..I would be receiving plenty of criticism, but I dont really care...because most of us do not have the culture of respecting others views..and thinking from their perspective.

But as far as demolishing his statue is concerned, it would be better if we place it in a museum. Our children can have a glance back towards history and the creator of the sculpture would also rest in peace.

This is ridiculous. If if they don't like the present Shahs does not mean that all of them need to be kicked out. He's a part of our country's history, you can't just wipe the history. Are monist government going to write new history of Nepal? If Prithvi Nayaran Shah had not put the country together there would be no Nepal; India and China would have easily swallowed those small states.

Gedagudi , whatever Prithivi Naryan shah motive was will always be indebted to prithivi naryan sha. If he wasn't there Nepal would probably would have been India by now. Because a United Nepal stand against British . In that sense he was National hero.

Can you imagine what he wrote 200 years ago.....which is infact more relevant now. Proves that he was far more farsighted than current leaders. If you read his "Dibyopadesh " you will know.


 Things like " Nepal dui dhunga bich ko tarul"........nepal should always try to maintain good relationship between  two neighbours..

Things like " Nepal 4 jaat ra 36 orna ko sajha phoolbari ho".....meaning Nepal is a garden of different kind of peoples. In ancient nepal there were mainly 4 Jaat and 36 barna. It was a message of communal harmony.

" Ghos line ra Ghos dine dubai desh ko satru ho"........Corrupt people are traitor.

Pritibhi Narayan sha was hundred years ahead of time.

Lets not debate what would have happened to Nepal or whether Nepal would not have existed if it had not been for PNS. We never know what would have happened. The worst case scenario would be either we would be Indians or Chinese. And as far as nationality is concerned, it is all relative.
If we would be Indians now, we would be proud to be Indians.Same goes with China.
We would be as patriotic to India or China as we are now to Nepal. We would not be remorsing that we are not Nepali coz there would not be a notion of Nepal or being nepali.
We would still be a sovereign and independent nation.

Prithivi Nayayan Shah is founder of Nepal and we cannot forget him.

Its really heart breaking to see a beautiful nation being gradually torn to pieces by its own people. Very sad indeed to hear endless news that indicated gloom and doom. The present government is after all the people's choice. Sometimes we make mistakes in decisions. And when that happens, we have to pay the price for a wrong choice. We are already beginning to see the results. Since the take over by the Maoist govt., there has not been a single good news. How blind can people be? Someone once told me that a sighted blind man is worse than a blind man. Because you can never change him.

There are so much of problems relating to the daily livelihood of the people which is more urgent and crucial for survival of the country. Tearing down statutes and ursurping the throne will not supply electricity to the nation. As it is, the world is facing global financial crisis. People are being thrown out of their jobs by the millions. Even rich and affluent socieities are beginning to face the crunch. I just can't imagine what's going to happen to Nepal by the end of 2009.

Where have all the educated people gone to? Why have all of you left your motherland stranded in the hands of destroyers? Instead of building a nation, you are allowing your beloved motherland to be shattered. How can you all do this to Her? Is this what love is all about? Just standing by and watching whilst Ravana destroys Sita?

Common brothers! Don't let down your Mother! Fight to preserve Her culture, Her history, Her people!

No! Histroy is history dun erase the history

They should not be allowed to destroy any statue, they should be kept in a museum. This goes same to rana statues and anything from panchayat time. Even Hitler statues are kept in museum so I think we should keep parts of history, both good and bad.

I absolutely disagree putting the statues in museum. Just think right, how many people care even going to museum.Statues and things look good where they were built .  It also marks respect to the one who created it.  Putting into museum means you are whipping out history in a very cunning and deceitful way.

Demolish nai garne ho bhane " why not demolish Narayanhiti Rajdurbar" . Demolish all the vestiges of Royals.
