Ok, so I applied for my STEM extension in late June and my initial 12 month OPT ended early July. So now I am sitting with an expired OPT and my STEM extension still being processed.

Now, the problem is - My employer wants to cut down my hours to under 20 hrs a week, which is not enough to maintain my F1 status. So I am about to quit this job and start another job. My college tells me not to do so because changing employers while STEM application is pending will raise a red flag and complicate/jeopardize approval of extension.

I can't find any info on this particular case online. Maybe you guys can help??

you can change the job while its been processed, u just have to call them and give new e-verify number. It worked for me.They are there to help you not give the hard times, but depends on person too.
Regarding 20 hrs a week, they can say you are in unpaid vacation.

According to my international advisor, if your OPT expires and ur application is still under processing status, you have 90 days in hand to work leaglly with expired work authorization.

i dont think show, i was also had the same perception and woorriedly expressed this while talking to customer serice, they scolded me , okay girl, dont worry much, u just keep on working.
